AmaZulu boss throws shade at Kaizer Chiefs after CAFCL final loss!

AmaZulu FC boss Sandile Zungu has explained that he was never bothered about Kaizer Chiefs stealing his side’s spot in next season’s CAF Champions League.

Benni McCarthy’s AmaZulu side finished in second place on the DStv Premiership log standings and subsequently earned a spot in the 2021/2022 CAF Champions League campaign.

Their spot however was under threat by Kaizer Chiefs who were competing in last season’s final against Al Ahly.

The equation was simple, should the Amakhosi win the title then AmaZulu would have been relegated to the CAF Confederation Cup while the Amakhosi would have qualified for the Champions League at their expense.

We knew Al Ahly would deal with Kaizer Chiefs – Zungu

AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu has explained why he was never bothered about losing his historic CAF Champions League spot to Kaizer Chiefs.

“Look, to be honest, we always knew that Kaizer Chiefs were no match for Al Ahly,” Zungu told KickOff.

“We are not underestimating Chiefs at all but we always knew that this season they were just no match, and who can undermine Pitso Mosimane? He is a proven winner, and we knew he is not going to be beaten by Chiefs.

“We saw it as a battle between Pitso Mosimane and Kaizer Chiefs. That’s why, from our planning point of view, we were planning for the CAF Champions League. We were not planning for the Confederation Cup.”
