A 60-year-old man was killed in a truck accident in Brakpan

A 60-year-old man was killed in a truck accident on Thursday afternoon on the N17 in Brakpan.

THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED AROUND 12:40

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the accident happened around 12:40 on Thursday.

The man was killed when his light motor vehicle rear-ended a truck on the N17 eastbound near the Heidelburg offramp in Brakpan.

Meiring said paramedics came across the accident at 12h40 to find both the truck and light motor vehicle in the emergency lane.

“The body of a man in his 60s was found lying trapped inside the vehicle.”

He said medics assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous fatal injuries.

“Nothing could be done for him, and he was declared dead.”

Meiring furthermore said the driver of the truck, fortunately, escaped injury.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a young woman was dragged under a vehicle, and her body was dismembered when she jumped out of the vehicle as the driver tried to flee from hijackers.

Police spokesperson, Captain Mavela Masondo said the driver was fleeing from hijackers who had also fired shots at them when the woman tried to jump out of the moving vehicle.

He said the group of friends were in an area called Chief Luthuli Park, near Daveyton, on Saturday evening.

Two women were seated in the back of the vehicle while the deceased woman was in the front with the driver.

Masondo said while in the vehicle, hijackers approached them.

“Gunshots were fired. The woman with the child at the back of the vehicle managed to jump out and flee.

“The woman in the passenger seat in the front also jumped out of the vehicle.”

Masondo said the 27-year-old woman was unfortunately trapped by the safety belt that she had not removed properly.

“She fell and landed underneath the vehicle.”
