Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

  1. Orange level 6 warning for disruptive rain is expected in places along the Wild Coast and adjacent interior in the Eastern Cape resulting in flooding of roads and settlements as well as traffic disruptions.
  2. Orange level 5 warning for snow is expected over north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape, as we as the extreme western parts of the KwaZulu-Natal, resulting in loss of livestock, traffic disruptions and major passes closed.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

  1. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Northern Cape coastal areas and the adjacent interior.

ADVISORIES:

  1. Very cold conditions are expected over the north-eastern high-ground in the Eastern Cape Province.

Gauteng:

Temperature: Fine and cold with morning frost in places, becoming
partly cloudy from the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Morning fog on the Highveld and escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and cold to cool, becoming cloudy from the extreme south with isolated afternoon showers and rain.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Cloudy with morning fog along the escarpment and central parts, otherwise partly cloudy and cool, becoming cloudy from the south-east in the afternoon.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Fine and cool to cold, becoming partly cloudy in the east by the afternoon.

Free State:

Temperature: Cloudy in the south and along the Lesotho border, becoming partly cloudy and cool to cold with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Morning frost over the southern interior, otherwise fine and cool to warm.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Cloudy in the east with morning light rain over the eastern parts of the south coast, otherwise fine and cool, but cold in the north-east.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly, but strong in the south-west coast.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half Temperature: Cloudy and cold with light morning rain in the south-east.

The Western half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly, becoming light easterly from the west.

The Eastern half Temperature: Cloudy and cold with scattered rain and showers south of the escarpment, clearing from the west in the afternoon. Very cold conditions are expected over the high-lying areas, with snowfalls along the southern Drakensberg.

The Eastern half Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-westerly becoming southerly from the west.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Cloudy and cold, but very cold in the south-west with scattered showers and thundershowers but widespread along the coast and adjacent interior. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected in the extreme west.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate fresh south-westerly

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Low.
