Orlando Pirates open talks with Bafana Bafana starlet! – Report

Orlando Pirates have began negotiations to land rising Maritzburg United starlet Bongokuhle Hlongwane.

The 20-year-old striker once again proved his pedigree after a superb debut performance for Bafana Bafana in their 3-2 victory over Uganda and Orlando Pirates are now tipped to land the Maritzburg United man.

It was only a matter of time before one of the big guns came knocking after Hlongwane burst on the scene last season under Eric Tinkler and continued where he left off with Ernst Middenddorp during the 2020/2021 campaign.

Orlando Pirates set their eyes on Hlongwane

Hlongwane has six goals and a further five assists after 41 senior appearances out at Maritzburg United. Orlando Pirates have struggled in terms of their striking department this season.

Key strikers Gabadinho Mhango and Tsheghofatso Mabasa were on the sidelines through injury for much of the campaign with Josef Zinnbauer often being forced to deploy a false nine in their absence.

Orlando Pirates have since looked to remedy their attacking problems by securing the services of one of South Africa’s hottest prospects in Hlongwane according to reports.

“Hlongwane is in demand. He is among the players that Orlando Pirates want to sign for next season. There could be a swap deal that involves Tebogo Tlolane going the other way,” an unnamed source told Kick-off.

Tinkler showers his praise on rising star

“We’ve got to remember where Sanisa (Hlongwane) was last season. He played mainly in MultiChoice Diski Challenge. Prior to him joining the Diski team, he was playing in the Castle (SAB league) team. He had some great performances for us last season and ended up signing a professional contract.” Eric Tinkler said last year regarding Orlando Pirates target Bongokuhle Hlongwane.

“I think, we’ve managed him very, very well. That’s important, we haven’t allowed the success to get to his head because that success sometimes comes too fast. I think, we’ve managed him well. I’m very happy with him. But it is about him still growing. I think that’s important, “
