‘Gomora’ Review: Viewers already asking, ‘When is Don leaving?’
When Mzansi Magic announced that actor Israel Matseke Zulu would be a part of Gomora season 2, #GomoraMzansi went wild!
Zulu currently plays the role of Don. He is Zodwa’s (Sana’s Mchunu) baby daddy, and Teddy’s (Sicelo Butheledzi) father. The actor has also been part of Gomora since season one behind the scenes as a location scout.
DON OVER BONGANI
Zulu’s fans expected him to play the typical bad boy characters he’s played in Gazlam, Yizo-Yizo etc. But his character didn’t meet their expectations.
It’s only been a few weeks but fans of the actor find his character incredibly annoying, unnecessary and too soft. They are waiting for the actor to snap into the real character as they feel that the current delivery isn’t meeting their expectations.
#GomoraMzansi have even requested for the show to not replace Bongani (Thulani Mtsweni) with Don as he’s more entertaining than Zulu’s character.
Zulu himself stated in an interview with True Love that Don is different from all the other characters he’s played. “It was challenging to step into the shoes of a father who had abandoned his child and is trying to regain his child’s love and trust. But as an actor, there is no special role. A role is a role and you always have to prepare for it.”
‘THE QUEEN’: THESE CHARACTERS HAVE BEEN CHARACTERS
Zulu is not the only actor who’s been cancelled by Soapville. Thembisa Mdoda also got cancelled since she debuted in The Queen last month.
Mdoda has temporarily replaced Zandile Msutwana who got injured on set.
Though Mdoda has done exceptional well in other shows such as UnMarried, she’s been called too soft and dull to play the character of Vuyiswa.
Her co-star, Brenda Ngxoli who is a multi-award-winning SAFTA actress was also labelled a huge disappointment by #TheQueenMzansi on Twitter.
Fans of #TheQueen feel like Ngxoli isn’t doing justice to her character (Norma) on The Queen. The actress is praised for her current role of Gladys on Rockville. The Queen and Rockville are both produced and created by Ferguson Films.
