DStv Premiership latest | What’s left to play for?

Mamelodi Sundowns may have already wrapped up a fourth consecutive title, but with two rounds left of play there is still so much to play for.

Positions in Africa next season, the Golden Boot and top-flight survival are all still up for grabs.

FIGHT FOR POSITIONS TO PLAY IN AFRICA NEXT SEASON

Benni McCarthy lies just one win away from confirming AmaZulu’s status in the CAF Champions League next season. A truly groundbreaking achievement. McCarthy is determined to achieve this feat with Usuthu.

Since McCarthy took over he has turned his team from a side fighting for survival to a side that looks set to finish second and qualify for the CAF Champions League next season.

The fight for third spot is intensifying with two rounds of play left. There is a a three-way tussle for third position – the spot that earns a side qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

This titanic tussle features Golden Arrows (46 points), Orlando Pirates (46 points) and Moroka Swallows (43 points).

These sides are separated by just three points. It is the last available spot that allows for African football next season.

THE GOLDEN BOOT

It is neck-and-neck in the battle for the 2020/21 DStv Premiership Golden Boot.

Bradley Grobler leads the pack with 14 goals and is favoured to win the award.

The following players will still believe they can win the award with a clinical finish to their seasons – Thabiso Kutumela (12), Peter Shalulile (11) and Ruzaigh Gamildien (11). They are just behind Grobler with two rounds left to play.

BATTLE FOR SURVIVAL

Staying in the DStv Premiership is the focus and priority of the sides at the bottom. It can be the difference between a coach being sacked or keeping his job, players staying and going or sponsors being lost or gained.

The side finishing 16th will automatically be relegated and the team finishing 15th will play a promotion playoff with the sides that finish second and third in the NFD (National First Division).

It is all to play for the likes of Black Leopards, Chippa United and Stellenbosch. Black Leopards currently occupy the bottom spot with 22 points.

Chippa United are just three points above them on 25 points.

Stellenbosch are on 27 points, just above the drop-off zone but cannot afford to drop any points.
