Cash-in-transit robbers arrested by Hawks for armed robbery
The Hawks recently arrested two alleged cash-in-transit robbers.
Lt Colonel Philane Nkwalase, Hawks spokesperson the pair, aged 28 and 39, was arrested on Monday for armed robbery. He said both men will appear in court soon.
THE PAIR WAS LATER ALSO POSITIVELY LINKED TO A CASH-IN-TRANSIT HEIST
“Two suspects were arrested on Monday by members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation assisted by Public Order Policing tracing team.
“The duo were initially investigated for their connection with an armed robbery that took place at the Mayville Post Office last week.
“Armed suspects entered the Mayville Post office and reportedly held the staff at gunpoint as they forced them to open the safe.”
Nkwalase said the men allegedly fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
“The joint team followed up on information and the suspects’ vehicle was spotted near Camperdown where both occupants were arrested.”

THE TEAM PROCEEDED TO SEARCH THE PREMISES OWNED BY THE SUSPECTS
“Two pistols, a rifle, and a police radio were recovered at the flat in Pinetown, allegedly owned by one of the suspects.
“The rifle was positively linked to a cash-in-transit robbery that took place in Plessislaer in May 2021, whilst one of the pistols is suspected to have been robbed from the Fidelity guards during the same incident.”
Meanwhile, at other premises in section 14 Chatsworth, one pistol was recovered during the search.
“All the firearms and ammunition that were recovered including the vehicle allegedly used in the commission of crime were seized for further investigation.”

Nkwalase said one suspect is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrates Court on Thursday.
His alleged accomplice, Goodman Gaza appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrate Court for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
He is expected to be back in the same court on 22 June 2021.
Last month police had another breakthrough in cash-in-transit robberies. A second suspect linked to a fatal cash-in-transit (CIT) heist that took place in April was arrested on Wednesday, 26 May, by the Hawks’s Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit in Mpumalanga.
