R2 Million up for grabs as Hollywoodbets announces Women’s league prize money

It has been a historic week for Women’s football in South Africa, with SAFA announcing the National Women’s League has received its first commercial sponsor in Hollywoodbets.

The League will now change to HollywoodBets Super League

The betting company has committed to pumping millions into the National Women’s League in a move that will see them earn the tag of being the league’s title sponsor. SAFA have since welcomed the involvement of Hollywoodbets as an entity that looks to advance women’s football in the country. The league will now effectively be called the Hollywoodbets Super League and relinquish its previous title as the SAFA National Women’s League.

The South African football mother body held its own function to officially welcome the sponsorship on Tuesday afternoon at the SAFA house. The initial announcement itself was made over the weekend, however. The Hollywoodbets sponsorship comes with a steep cash injection to the league as it was announced that the winners of the tournament will walk away with a cool R2 Million.

All the teams in the league guaranteed prize money

The financial rewards will not be limited to just the champions, however, as the competitions runners up will receive R 1 Million with the other participating sides receiving R150 000 for their troubles at the end of the season. Speaking to Safa.net SAFA President Danny Jordaan said, “For the first time, the National Women’s League has a commercial partner. This investment will further help us to strengthen the clubs in order to accelerate the growth and development of professional women’s football in our country”. In acknowledgement of the magnitude of the deal.

“To Hollywoodbets, we welcome you as a partner. Thank you very much, this is a great day for us, for the players, for women’s football in South African. We are really excited about this collaboration which we think is definitely a game-changer.” He continued

There was also a special mention and thanks to SABC who has come on board and broadcasted most of the leagues’ matches, a feat that SAFA CEO Tebogo Motlanthe has not taken for granted, highlighting its significance.

Hollywoodbets sponsorship adds to continued increase in Women’s exposure

“We must also thank our broadcast partners, the SABC who share our vision in elevating women’s football. Without doubt, this is to date the single largest media platform provided to women’s sport in South Africa”

“Visibility and investment go hand in hand. Ultimately, the Hollywoodbets Super League will only be sustainable long term if we can reach more viewers and gain awareness through greater access to watching on TV. Not only will this partnership help grow the reach and associated following, but it will become a critical enabler for the league and its clubs to attract greater sponsorship deals and broadcast revenues, which ultimately is where much of the men’s money now comes from”. Said Motlanthe
