Khanyisa Mayo to continue family legacy at Kaizer Chiefs?
Richards Bay forward Khanyisa Mayo is reportedly one of the players Kaizer Chiefs are targeting for their squad rebuild scheduled for the upcoming transfer window.
Mayo played a crucial role in Nedbank Cup victory
It isn’t the first time that the Mthatha-born player has been linked to Chiefs, as links first surfaced shortly after his impressive performance against Amakhosi in the Nedbank Cup this season. Mayo assisted the first goal of the game from the corner flag, in an eventual 2-1 upset victory for the KwaZulu-Natal side.

Mayo would have clearly impressed the Chiefs management in that fixture, especially considering the fact that he produced that type of performance coming fresh from an injury. He then continued to build on that as he became a key part of Richards Bay early title challenge which has since seen its wheel fall off in the business end of the league.
More PSL clubs than Chiefs interested
Although it now seems unlikely that Richards Bay will get automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership, it now seems like that may not impact Mayo’s prospects of playing in the league next season. Rumours of a potential move to Chiefs have since resurfaced as both leagues approach their climax. Now according to a source known to The Citizen Chiefs are just one of a plethora of PSL clubs that are thought to be interested in Mayo’s services.
“He played with so much maturity and showed his class. He has an educated left foot and can score some beautiful goals and any team who lands him will have acquired an asset.
“I have heard that there are two Gauteng-based teams who have been asking about him but were told to wait for the season to end before they can be engaged. I believe Kaizer Chiefs is one of them, and the other could be Swallows or Mamelodi Sundowns, I am not sure,” said the source
Would be following in his father’s footsteps
The Chiefs faithful could view the 22-year-old as a great prospect for both the present and the future, and would no doubt be happy to have his left-footed set-pieces as an option to add to their repertoire. The SuperSport United Youth Academy product wouldn’t be the first Mayo to play for Chiefs should he make the move, as he would be following in the footsteps of his father who played for the Glamour boys between 2003-2007.
