Murder files: Police constable arrested for shooting at ‘cheating’ boyfriend

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested yet another police officer for allegedly firing shots with her service pistol and attempting to murder her boyfriend in the Freestate this week.

IPID national spokesperson Ndileka Cola said the police constable had allegedly attempted to murder her boyfriend on Tuesday 11 May 2021 in Ficksburg.

“It is alleged that the 31-year-old police constable stationed at Ficksburg Police Station was on duty driving with her colleague when her boyfriend stopped by their vehicle to speak to his police constable girlfriend,” Cola said.

Cola said it had been alleged that the police constable’s boyfriend had then approached the police vehicle to speak to her crew.

“Whilst he was there, the girlfriend went to her boyfriend’s vehicle and checked his cellphone. It is alleged that the officer then went to her boyfriend and confronted him for cheating on her,” Cola said.

“As they argued, she allegedly took out her official firearm and fired shots in the direction of her boyfriend, but missed him. The police sergeant present at the scene took the firearm from the officer,” Cola said.

Colas said IPID officers had attended the scene of the crime where they arrested the police constable for discharging her official firearm and attempted murder. The police constable is expected to appear in the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 13 May.
