Mfuleni: Police officer shot and killed at car wash, grandson wounded
Police in the Western Cape has opened cases of murder and attempted murder following a horrific shooting in Mfuleni on Sunday 16 May, whereby an off-duty police officer lost her life.
SHOOTING INCIDENT UNFOLDS AT MFULENI CAR WASH
According to South African Police Service (SAPS) Captain FC van Wyk, the shooting incident occurred on Sunday afternoon around 14:45 at a car wash in Taurmaline Street, Bardale Informal Settlement, Mfuleni.
Van Wyk said that while the police officer lost her life, three others, including her young grandson made a narrow escape with injuries.
“A 50-year-old victim, an off duty Lieutenant Colonel attached to Delft SAPS, was shot and fatally wounded and three others including her three-year-old grandson were injured,” said Van Wyk.
All injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The suspects, however, managed to flee the scene in a white Toyota Avanza, and are yet to be arrested.

POLICE DETAIN 11 SUSPECTS FOR KHAYELITSHA MURDERS
While the suspects from the Mfuleni shooting managed to escape, the suspects that may be responsible for a series of shootings in Khayelitsha were recently nabbed by police.
“The Western Cape police’s integrated task team set up to track and trace suspects behind a series of shooting incidents in Khayelitsha on Saturday that left 13 people dead and several injured, has detained 11 suspects in the early hours of Monday morning,” said Brigadier Novela Potelwa.
The task team pounced on the suspects at a hotel in Sea Point at about 3:00 in the morning. Now, they are currently being questioned with a view to charging them later.
Nine people were shot and killed at different locations in Site B, Khayelitsha on Saturday. Four others succumbed to injuries sustained from the shooting incidents in hospital and five were seriously wounded.
Shortly after the murders occurred, Western Cape Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Thembisile Patekile instituted a 72-hour Activation Plan for the mobilisation of resources that would lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators.
Once charged, the suspects will face murder and attempted murder charges and as the investigations progress more charges could added.
