Gavin Hunt attempts to explain mystery over Kaizer Chiefs’ SA and CAF form

Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has tried to explain Kaizer Chiefs’ superior form in the CAF Champions League compared to the DStv Premiership.

Kaizer Chiefs are coming off a 4-0 drubbing of Tanzanian outfit Simba SC in the first leg of their CAF Champions League quarter-final at the FNB Stadium last Saturday.

That result should see Gavin Hunt’s men qualify for their first ever CAF Champions League semi-final.

Their league form, by contrast, has been woeful as they are just five points above the relegation zone, winning just six of their 27 league matches to date.

And the Amakhosi tactician attempted to explain the strange phenomenon.

“I think the Champions League is suited to this squad of players that we’ve got,” the coach is quoted by Times Live.

“It’s a much slower game‚ a much more predictable game‚ so it comes at you. Where in the PSL [Premier Soccer League]‚ I’ve always said that the players run faster than the ball in the PSL.

“It’s much slower in the Champions League. So maybe it suits the group of players that we’ve got here‚ where it’s a little bit more methodical‚ a bit more direct. That’s the only thing I can think of from a football perspective.
