However, Manqoba Mngqithi fielded what was relatively a ‘Sundowns B team’ with the majority of the team’s regulars rested for the encounter.

Sundowns, though, can still be proud of themselves despite losing only their first official game in 29 matches.

Prior to this defeat, Sundowns had last tasted defeat on 18 October 2020 when they succumbed to a 1-0 loss to Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN8.

Since then, they recorded a whopping 20 wins while the other eight matches ended in draws.

It is also worth mentioning that Sundowns went on a rampage between 27 January 2021 to 16 March 2021 where they won all their 10 competitive matches during that period.

Interestingly, Sundowns kept 16 clean sheets in the 28 matches that they were unbeaten, and the two goals conceded against CR Belouizdad on Friday was only the third time during that period that they had conceded two or more goals in a single match.

Only AmaZulu in that 4-3 win at Loftus Versveld Stadium on 22 November 2020 and Stellenbosch (3-2 win) in the Nedbank Cup had managed to put two or more goals in the Sundowns net.

In addition, Sundowns had only failed to score on four occasions in the 28 matches, meaning they have now failed to score in five of their last 29 games across all competitions.

Impressively though, Sundowns have scored 54 goals in their last 29 matches to further demonstrate their dominance both locally and on the African continent.
