Proteas triumph once again over Namibia on Day 3 of SPAR Challenge

The second and final match on Saturday, 27 March took place between the SPAR Proteas and Namibia.

It was the second time the Proteas and the Namibian Desert Jewels met each other this week with the Proteas winning the match 66-31.

From the outset South Africa dominated and by half-time the score was 39-15 in their favour.

The Namibians are yet to taste victory in the SPAR Challenge Tri-Nations series.

Proteas head coach Dorette Badenhorst started the match with a different set of players than the first two games.

Nosipho Ntshangase replaced Khanyisa Chawane in wing defence, Izette Griesel started in place of Romé Joubert in the centre and Sian Moore replaced Nonsikelelo Mazibuko.

Badenhorst also made a number of changes at the start of the third quarter introducing all the subs into the game without affecting the performance of the team as they continued to dominate the match, claiming their 12th victory over Namibia.

Proteas assistant coach Dumisani Chauke said her team showcased the depth of talent in South Africa.

“The absence of some of our top players, who were unavailable because they are in Australia and the United Kingdom, has given us an opportunity to assess the second and third tier players and we are very happy with the way they have performed. There is a good pool of players coming through and there is fierce competition for places in the national teams. We have also been excited by what we have seen in the matches between the SPAR Baby Proteas and the President’s XII,” Chauke said.

The player of the match honours were awarded to Nozipho Ntshangase.
