Kaizer Chiefs latest | Hunt has a message for out-of-contract players
Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt doesn’t think their poor run of form in the league has anything to do with the fact that some players are still not sure about their futures.
A number of Amakhosi’s top players are out of contract at the end of the season, and they include senior players such as Willard Katsande, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, and Bernard Parker among others.

However, Hunt revealed what he always tells his players, saying they should use every opportunity they get to impress – whether at training or in competitive matches.
“I mean, if you are a professional footballer, you play. I always say to players, ‘you are in the shop window. You should be playing and training every day like somebody is watching you’,” Hunt told reporters ahead of Sunday’s Soweto derby.
“If you do that then the football gods will take care of you. That’s how I work, every day is a trial,” said Hunt.
Hunt said every player should strive to be better than the previous day whether or not they are certain of their futures.

He added that he doesn’t want to see any of his players cheat the game for the sake of either securing their futures or holding back in an attempt to avoid getting injured for when they happen to move elsewhere.
“We need to be better than before and things will take care of themselves. I certainly don’t want players cheating the game,” he added.
“You will get caught out. That’s how I look at it and we need to forget about it and try play every game like it’s our last,” concluded Hunt.

Hunt will lead Amakhosi in what will be his fourth Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates since taking over from Ernst Middendorp in September 2020.
The 56-year-old has already suffered three defeats to counter-part Josef Zinnbauer this season – two in the MTN8 and one in the league.
Kick-off at the FNB Stadium is at 15h00.
