‘Black Widow’ latest release date to remain unchanged, Disney bosses say
The release date for Marvel’s Black Widow movie, to feature Scarlett Johansson one last time, has been in question for ages. The film has been pushed back several times due to the global pandemic, with some speculating that its May premiere could be delayed further.
But Disney’s bosses are determined to keep the current date unchanged. At Disney’s annual shareholder meeting this week, CEO Bob Chapek reiterated that the release date for the highly anticipated superhero film would remain in May.
He said the Cate Shortland-directed project would be released in movie theatres as opposed to video-on-demand or streaming options.

‘Black Widow’ sees Scarlett Johansson return for final time
The film sees Scarlett Johansson return as Natasha Romanoff for the last time.
Eric Pearson wrote Black Widow from a story by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson. Following the events of Captain America: Civil War, Romanoff is forced to confront a conspiracy with dangerous ties to her past as a KGB-trained spy and assassin.
Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, she must come to terms with her spy history and the broken relationships she left behind long before she joined the Avengers.
Scarlett Johansson: Underlying family theme in ‘Black Widow’ a surprise
Speaking to Total Film in 2020, Scarlett Johansson said Black Widow’s underlying family theme would surprise fans.
“One of the themes of the film is family. What is family? How does it define us? How does our past define us? How does our family – however we define it – make up who we are, for better or worse?”
“I think part of Kevin Feige’s genius is that he always thinks about what fans expect out of these films and then gives them something that they never could’ve dreamed of,” Johansson said.
“The idea of Natasha Romanoff in a family drama is the least expected thing, and I had to wrap my head around what that was going to be, because there’s such a big tonal shift.”
New film to boast glittering cast
A glittering cast featuring the talents of David Harbour as Alexei (aka The Red Guardian), Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Rachel Weisz as Melina and O-T Fagbenle stars opposite Scarlett Johansson.
Black Widow is scheduled for release on 7 May.
