Khune targets three points for Kaizer Chiefs against Wydad
Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune insists the Glamour Boys are in Burkina Faso to bag three points against Wydad Casablanca.
Chiefs may have been playing their matches behind closed doors but there is no way they can avoid the frustration of their fans after a disappointing season to date.
Kaizer Chiefs to make amends for frustrating season
Well off the pace in the DStv Premiership, eliminated from the MTN8 by their fierce rivals Orlando Pirates, who went on to win that cup ending their trophy drought, Kaizer Chiefs have also suffered a shock elimination from the Nedbank Cup and started their Champions League group stage campaign with an underwhelming draw.
With the pressure well and truly on, Kaizer Chiefs could do with a big scalp.
Speaking from Ouagadougou, Khune said the team were well aware of the enormity of the task before them.
“It’s a very tough match for us but we’re looking forward to bringing three points back home. We’ve been preparing very well for this match and we’re going to give it our all,” Khune told KaizerChiefs.com.
“Everyone is ready, all the guys are looking forward to the game and we’re going to work together as a team. It’s going to be difficult because it’s not our home game.
“But we’re going to fight hard for the three points and make sure that we make the Amakhosi family happy and proud.”
Wydad: A side with continental pedigree
Wydad have put their Casablanca rivals Raja in the shade in recent times, cementing themselves as big-time players with their 2017 Caf Champions League win.
Since that victory Wydad have progressed from the group stage of the Champions League every season and were losing finalists in the controversial 2019 final.
Wydad are Morocco’s most successful club having claimed the top-flight title on 20 occasions, but they have a real drive to claim a third Champions League title to draw level with Raja in terms of continental glory.
All ten of Wydad’s previous meetings with South African sides have come against Mamelodi Sundowns.
