British Airways to resume regional flights in March and Harare’s on the list

Comair has been operating domestic flights for British Airways since it resumed flights in December 2020. The airline has been operating full-service flights to numerous airports in the country.   

COMAIR COMES OUT OF BUSINESS RESCUE

Comair entered business rescue in May 2020 due to mounting losses incurred across the Kulula and British Airways brands.

After a lengthy business rescue process, both brands took to the skies in December. British Airways announced it would focus on its domestic routes for several months. This will enable the airline to ramp up operations before restarting its former regional flight network.

RESTART OF BRITISH AIRWAYS REGIONAL FLIGHTS

Comair has announced that British Airways will restart flights between Johannesburg and Harare in March as part of a gradual return to normal operations. Flights will begin on 28 March but passengers may now book flights to Harare as these flights are already available on booking platforms.    

“We are delighted to reopen bookings for our services to Harare as part of the gradual ramp-up to our schedule. These flights will offer more choice for those customers who would like to fly to the regional destination from South Africa,” Comair executive head of revenue management Desmond O’Connor said, as quoted by Tourism Update.

BRITISH AIRWAYS STIMULATING REGIONAL TOURISM

British Airways will gradually return to destinations it once served in neighbouring countries. The restart of flights to Harare is the first step. The airline will offer holiday packages to destinations in its regional route network once it returns to these places. This will help stimulate demand for tourism in the region.   

“We will soon reintroduce holiday packages through our tour operating divisions, which will mutually improve regional tourism between the SADC countries,” O’Connor said.
