The 1996 “sports comedy” and was a massive hit for Universal Pictures.

The movie, made on a $12 million budget, earned $41.2 million and helped put golf etiquette back on the agenda.

Sandler starred as Happy Gilmore, a highly-strung former ice hockey player who discovers a unique talent for golf.

He joins the pro golf tour to win some money to save his grandmother’s house, but along the way antagonises many, including his nemesis Shooter McGavin.

Shooter McGavin – Gilmore’s nemesis in the movie, played by Christopher McDonald (now 66) – had the perfect response.

The two look more than ready to rekindle the rivalry on the PGA Tour Champions.
