Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

  1. Yellow (level 2) warning for wind (south-easterly) with possible localized damage to properties, problems for high sided vehicles as well as temporary closure of major routes (N2- Sir Lowry’s Pass and N1-Huguenot Tunnel) until the evening over the Cape Metropole, south western parts of Cape Winelands and western parts of the Overberg Districts of the Western Cape.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

  1. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the west coast of the Western and Northern Cape, as well as the central interior of the Western Cape.

ADVISORIES:

  1. Extremely hot conditions are expected over the northern parts of the West Coast District (Western Cape) as well as Kamiesberg municipality (Northern Cape).

Gauteng:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with isolated showers in the south of the province.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Cloudy in the east with morning fog along the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Cloudy in the east with isolated to scattered morning showers and thundershowers but widespread in the extreme north-east, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the west.

Free State:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the southern parts.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and cool to warm, but hot in north, with scattered showers in the north east, otherwise isolated, except along the coast and adjacent interior where it will remain dry.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be strong southerly to south-easterly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Partly cloudy in the north east with isolated thundershowers by the afternoon, otherwise fine and warm to hot, but very hot along the west coast.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong easterly to south easterly but gale between Table Bay and Hermanus.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Eastern Cape:

The Western halfTemperature: Cloudy in places in the east at first, otherwise fine and warm, but hot in the north where it will become partly cloudy from late afternoon.

The Western Half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate north easterly, becoming fresh to strong easterly from late morning.

The Eastern halfTemperature: Warm in the west, otherwise cloudy and cool with a slight chance of morning light rain in places south east of the escarpment, but partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers in the north from the afternoon.

The Eastern halfWind: The wind along the coast will be light and variable, becoming moderate to fresh north easterly from mid-morning.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be Moderate southerly to south-easterly, becoming east to north-easterly from the south towards midday.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.
