Visiting a Cape Town beach on Wednesday? Watch out for Bheki Cele…

Bheki Cele will be conducting spot checks on nine separate Cape Town beaches during Wednesday’s public holiday, as the government continues to monitor the situation by the seaside. The Day of Reconciliation is expected to bring coastal visitors out in their droves, and the police minister will be keeping a beady eye on local beachgoers.

What beaches are closed in South Africa?

Cape Town managed to avoid beach closures this week, after Cyril Ramaphosa announced that there would be a total shutdown in the Eastern Cape until 3 January. KZN, meanwhile, will see its shores closed to the public on several key dates in December – including today. All beaches will have to clear-out visitors by 18:00.

“Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele accompanied by SAPS management will on Wednesday, 16 December 2020 embark on a day-long visit to various beaches in Cape Town in a bid to inspect operational deployments as well as assess adherence to lockdown regulations. Members of the media are invited to join the entourage.”
