Maritzburg United are a team on a mission, sign defender Clayton Daniels
DStv Premiership basement side Maritzburg United are a club on a mission.
Despite languishing at the bottom of the standings without a single win in their eight matches to date and only two points in total to show for their efforts in the 2020/21 season, the Team of Choice were the first club to resume training after the Christmas break.
Maritzburg United returned to the field on Boxing Day ahead of their next league match against Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday, January 2.
And they may well have a new face in their line-up this weekend at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
DANIELS PREVIOUSLY PLAYED FOR SUPERSPORT UNITED
This comes after 36-year-old Bafana Bafana defender Clayton Daniels put pen to paper on a deal to join the club.
“Clayton Daniels has signed with Maritzburg United and is expected to be registered with the PSL today (Wednesday),” a source close to the club confirmed to the Kickoff website.
Clayton Daniels most recently played for SuperSport United, but became a free agent after being let go by Matsatsantsa.
Maritzburg United’s signing spree isn’t expected to end with Daniels’ signature.
The club are now reported to be eyeing the services of Mamelodi Sundowns’ goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse.
MARITZBURG UNITED NEXT PLAY ON SATURDAY
Maritzburg United signed Zambian shot-stopper Sebastian Mwange during the off-season following the departure of Richard Ofori to Orlando Pirates.
Kick-off in Saturday’s Maritzburg United v Bloemfontein Celtic clash is at 17:30.
