Gauteng: Trucker arrested for being *12 times* over the drink-drive limit

If you’re 12 times over the drink-drive limit, it’s a miracle if you can even keep your eyes open – let alone operate a lorry. But this Gauteng trucker has landed himself in some serious trouble, after he hit the bottle ridiculously hard before getting behind the wheel of his HGV. Local authorities are far from impressed…

Drink-drive chump locked away for Christmas

The Provincial Traffic Police have been forced to warn motorists against irresponsible and reckless behaviour on the roads, following the arrest of a 39-year-old man earlier this week. The trucker was involved in a multi-vehicle collision, and when he was breathalysed at the scene, cops were left stunned by the amount of alcohol in his system.

  • The truck driver was arrested on Tuesday at about 13:00, on the R21 next to the Pomona off-ramp.
  • It’s understood the driver lost control of the vehicle and plunged into several other vehicles.
  • The truck driver was charged and detained at the Kempton Park police station.
  • He is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate Court later today.
  • When tested at the scene for alcohol consumption, the results were found to be 12 times over the limit – since it showed 1.25 milligram per 100 millilitres.

Hammered trucker sparks traffic warning

Gauteng Traffic Police Spokesperson Sello Maremane was enraged by the sheer scale of this driver’s hazardous stupidity. He said anyone found driving a vehicle under the influence of intoxicating liquor will be charged, arrested, and convicted for a maximum of seven years’ imprisonment.

“We condemn this kind of irresponsible and reckless behaviour by road users especially during the festive season where motorists are expected to save lives. The law enforcement authorities will not rest until ruthless and lawless behaviour is eradicated on our roads. Drink-driving is one of the major contributors to fatal crashes resulting in the loss of lives.”
