Cheetahs bid farewell to another player seeking a more secure future

The Cheetahs are preparing themselves to lose the services of yet another player early in 2021.

Jacques du Toit is set to become the latest South African addition to the English Premiership by signing a short-term deal with Bath.

According to reports, Du Toit has already signed for the club and is likely to join up with his new team-mates in the new year.

DU TOIT IS AWAITING HIS VISA

Du Toit is awaiting his visa before joining up with the West Country club and will then begin his Covid-19 isolation protocols before he starts training with the wider squad.

Du Toit will join on an initial six-month deal with the hope of extending his contract beyond that.

The 27-year-old is understood to have spent time in Bath while on an off-day during his time with the Cheetahs and was impressed enough to leave with a hope of playing there someday.

DU TOIT IS A PRODUCT OF GREY COLLEGE

A product of Grey College, Du Toit played five matches for the Junior Springboks. He came through the ranks at the Cheetahs, representing them at all age groups at both junior and senior levels.

Du Toit isn’t the only Cheetahs player packing his bags seeking a more secure future in light of the uncertainty facing the side having been axed from both Super Rugby and the PRO14 in recent years.

Over the weekend, reports emerged that promising prop Boan Venter was on his way to the UK with a number of English and Scottish clubs interested in the 23-year-old’s services.

Earlier, Tian Schoeman and Reinach Venter confirmed they are set to further their careers in Europe – at Bath and Clermont Auvergne, respectively.

Prop Luan de Bruin has already left for Leicester, where he will join former team-mate Jasper Wiese.

Lock Walt Steenkamp (Bulls) and centre Benhard Janse van Rensburg (Japan) left towards the end of October while lock JP du Preez recently joined Sale Sharks.

Meanwhile, forwards coach Corniel van Zyl is set to join London Irish.
