Cardi B shows Africa love on her new show ‘Cardi Tries’
Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar, known by her stage name Cardi B, teamed up with Facebook to launch Cardi Tries, which premiered on 17 December. The Bodak Yellow hitmaker showed Africa some love on the first episode when she learnt the West-African dance — and some ballet moves.
NEW SHOW ‘CARDI TRIES’
The new show, broadcast on Facebook, shows Cardi B venturing out to try new things out of her comfort zone, such as being a teacher, learning to drive and trying out ballet.
There is a new episode every Thursday and the show’s Facebook page has already racked up 23.9-million followers.
The show is part of boosting Facebook’s Watch Together feature that allows viewers to watch Facebook videos together using the Facebook Messenger application.
CARDI B SHOWS LOVE FOR AFRICA
In the first episode of Cardi Tries, Cardi tries ballet as well as the Dunun dance. The Dunun dance, also known as the Dundun dance, is a West-African dance combining stick drumming and dance.
The I Like It hitmaker is seen wearing an African print wrapper tied around her waist with matching head gear that looks like a doek.
Cardi B, who recently scooped Billboard’s Woman of the Year award, loved the African outfit she wore and said it felt like it was the one for her.
“This one for me, look at all the colours. My outfit, ha! That’s the type of outfit I like, with colour,” she said on the episode.

CARDI B TRIES BEING A BALLERINA
Besides the Dunun dance, the WAP rapper also got legendary choreographer Debbie Allen, of The Debbie Allen Dance Academy, to help her fulfil her childhood fantasy of being a ballerina.

CARDI B IN GERT-JOHAN COETZEE
Cardi Tries was not Cardi B’s first display of love for Africa. The star also wore South African fashion designer Gert-Johan Coetzee’s outfit for husband Offset’s birthday bash. The outfit was a brown beaded skirt and corset and the designer excitedly shared post after post of Cardi B wearing his creation.
Reigning Miss SA Shadfhadzo Musida also wore a piece from Coetzee’s collection for her homecoming tour in November. She wore a beautiful, beaded, figure-hugging dress.
