Toyota Land Cruiser Max 3: This bakkie can survive any farm attack

If rural and farm security is a concern to you, SVI has the solution.

The armoured car specialist, which leverages South Africa’s enormous resources in the bulletproof vehicle technology, has now revealed its Max 3. A locally designed and built bakkie to keep its occupants safe.

Max 3 delivers as civilian armoured bakkie

Its appearance might look like something from a Mad Max movie, but the SVI Max 3 uses a familiar platform and mechanical components. SVI has cleverly decided to base its civilian armoured vehicle on the popular and proven Toyota Land Cruiser.

South African farmers and mining teams have an affinity for the Land Cruiser, valuing its toughness and ability to keep going for thousands of kilometres, over the most challenging terrain.

What SVI offers, with its Max 3, is the choice of three configurations, two bakkies (single- and double-cab) or a station wagon. All three options use the Toyota Land Cruiser 70-series chassis and powertrain.

B6 levels of ballistic protection

Graded to offer B6 levels of ballistic protection, the Max 3 cab will keep its passengers safe, even in an assault rifle attack.

SVI’s engineers have meticulously designed and fabricated the unique steel cab structure to offer a B6 protection rating. That means the Max 3 will resist sustained from large calibre rifles, such as the AK-47 or R1.

MAX 3: SAFE BUT HEAVY

The cost of this protection is not insignificant, either in terms of purchase price or weight. SVI charges R1.6 million for its Max 3 and in bulletproof trim, is heavier than a conventional Land Cruiser 70.

To compensate for the increase in mass, and potential bodyroll issues, SVI has slightly upgraded the suspension with anti-roll bars and fitted tyres with a greater weight rating.

Riot-proof construction, situational awareness

As a concept, there is no question that SVI has evaluated the demand for a riot-proof construction and mining support vehicle, which can also be used by farmers who might be anxious about their security.

The Max 3’s roof structure features powerful wraparound LED lights, to enable excellent situational awareness when investigating a potential issue on your farm – or rolling up to the homestead.

Powering the Max 3 is Toyota’s 4.5-litre V8 turbodiesel, producing 151kW and 430Nm. A notable benefit of using the Land Cruiser platform for its Max 3, is that SVI’s customers can access service parts and mechanical support, form the broadly established Toyota dealer network.
