Radebe makes bold prediction: Kaizer Chiefs won’t finish in the top 8 this season!
At least one ex-Kaizer Chiefs player has already lost all hope of his former team performing well in the inaugural DStv Premiership.
David Radebe, who played 114 matches for Amakhosi between 2002-2007, says he cannot see Gavin Hunt’s charges finishing in the top 8 this season.
WOULD MISS NEXT SEASON’S MTN 8
Such an outcome would mean Chiefs would finish in the bottom half of the 16-team log and miss out on next season’s MTN 8 tournament.
Almost an unthinkable outcome for the four-time PSL champions – and record 15-time MTN 8 winners.
It’s been a torrid restart to football for Chiefs and their supporters following the Covid-19 enforced break.
Chiefs looked to be on course for the 2019/20 PSL title, but saw that snatched away from them on the final day of the season by Mamelodi Sundowns.
GAVIN HUNT’S START HAS BEEN ANYTHING BUT SMOOTH
They then cut ties with coach Ernst Middendorp and hired former Wits mentor, Gavin Hunt.
Hunt’s start at Naturena has been anything but smooth, having seen his side lose 5-0 on aggregate to their bitter rivals Orlando Pirates in the MTN 8 semi-finals (3-0 away and 2-0 at home).
They also lost 3-0 to Sundowns on the opening day of the new season and played out to a goalless draw against minnows TS Galaxy in their last outing.
It’s clear a dark cloud is hanging over the supposed “new dawn” at the club.
“Yoh, I don’t think they will make it into the top eight this season,” a disappointed Radebe told KickOff.com.
“The way they are playing there’s no way they are going to finish in the top eight. They won’t be fighting relegation but top eight, I don’t think they are going to make it.
“The way their results have been going… they lose today, tomorrow they draw, then lose again and win and lose again… you see that’s how they work, hence I’m saying I don’t see them making the top eight.
Chiefs currently find themselves in a lowly 11th place in the DStv Premiership log, with four points from three matches.
They are next in action after the upcoming international break against fifth-placed Golden Arrows at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday, November 21.
Kick-off is at 15:30.
