Kyle Abbott signs up to join Lankan Premier League
Former Proteas fast bowler Kyle Abbott has signed up to play in the newly-launched Lankan Premier League (LPL).
The 33-year-old is a veteran of 60 internationals, having represented South Africa across all three formats.
Kyle Abbott joins Jaffna Stallions
He becomes the latest South African player to sign up for the Sri Lankan league, and has joined the Jaffna Stallions alongside former England batsman, Ravi Bopara.
Abbott last played for his country in 2017 before his career ended due to him taking up a Kolpak contract.
He has turned out for Worcestershire, Middlesex and Hampshire in the English county circuit, and has also represented several teams in the Indian Premier League, as well as one back home in the Mzansi Super League, where he donned the colours of the Durban Heat.
South Africans in the Lankan Premier League
Abbott follows several former Proteas and current stars who have signed up for the league.
Former skipper Faf du Plessis will turn out for the Colombo Kings, while the big-hitting David Miller is in the books of the Dambulla Hawks.
Another South African player set to feature in the tournament is ex-Proteas top-order batsman Colin Ingram, who has joined the Galle Gladiators alongside Pakistani great Shahid Afridi and legendary Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga.
The inaugural season of the LPL will kick off in late November, with six teams battling it out for top honours.

Meanwhile, another ex-Proteas speedster has landed in the subcontinent for a stint in the Pakistani Super League (PSL).
Wayne Parnell – who also took up a Kolpak deal, ending an international career which yielded over 100 matches – has joined the Karachi Kings.
