Dale Steyn provides Lanka Premier League with much-needed star power
Proteas legend Dale Steyn will provide the Lanka Premier League (LPL) with a much-needed shot of star power.
Steyn confirmed on social media that he will be joining the Kandy Tuskers.
“See you soon Sri Lanka, I’ll be joining up with my team @KandyTuskers later this week. Should be fun to see old friends and compete in some good cricket!”, Steyn wrote.
Steyn, now 39, remains South Africa’s leading all-time Test wicket-taker with 439 victims.
He will replace Pakistan fast bowler Sohail Tanvir who tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving in Sri Lanka.
However, with the tournament due to get under way on Thursday, November 26, Steyn is almost certain to miss the start while he undergoes a mandatory quarantine period.
The confirmation that Steyn will form part of the tournament is finally some good for the LPL which has already been postponed on three occasions.
In addition, several international T20 stars – including Chris Gayle, Faf du Plessis and Lasith Malinga – have all withdrawn.
The five-team tournament is due to kick off on November 26 with the final scheduled to be played on December 16.
