Watch: Young teen lands record deal with Fleetwood Mac cover [video]
A young teen in Nashville, America recently landed a record deal for her cover of one of Fleetwood Mac’s most popular hits.
Going viral with a Fleetwood Mac classic
Yes, it is said Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams has experienced a widespread resurgence in popularity thanks to a now-infamous TikTok and YouTube video. It is said it only took ten days for Lanie Gardner to land a record deal after a video of her cover of Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams was posted online.
The Nashville singer wasn’t even born when Dreams was a hit. But that didn’t stop her from posting a truly show-stopping cover of the song to her YouTube channel.
First, she gave a shout-out to a man named Nathan Apodaca who initially posted a video of himself skateboarding while drinking a large bottle of Ocean Spray Cran-Raspberry juice to Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams. This subsequently went viral. Then everyone apparently downloaded a copy of the British-American rock band’s 1977 album Rumours.
Classic Rock and Country roots
The video that was posted by Gardner on 2 October 2020, garnered over 1.2 million views (and counting) within two weeks. Gardner’s number of subscribers also jumped up wildly nearly overnight.
She explains in her YouTube bio:
“Lanie’s jaw-dropping cover of Dreams by Fleetwood Mac went viral on TikTok in October 2020 and caught the attention of Mick Fleetwood himself, Kevin Jonas Sr (father of the Jonas Brothers), and more. Within five days of the video going viral, Lanie’s TikTok account gained over 140 000 new followers and over 7.5 million video views. Lanie’s TikTok success also crossed over to her other social media platforms, where she gained 7M+ Facebook views on the Dreams” cover, over 700 000 total views on her YouTube videos, and over 200 000 new social media followers.”
She describes herself as an “emerging alternative pop artist” who “skillfully mixes the styles of Post Malone, Kehlani, and Masego with her Classic Rock and Country roots.”
