EFF tells Clicks to ‘go to hell’, forges ahead with shutdown
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is far from being fazed by Clicks’ threat to pursue legal action, in response to its plans to shutdown the health and beauty retailer on Monday, September 7, 2020.
Lawyers for Clicks have subsequently instructed the EFF to cancel its nationwide demonstration to its stores and also remove all posts on its social media pages, announcing its shutdown.
Clicks threatens legal action against EFF
They had given the red berets until 22h00 on Sunday, 6 September 2020 to respond to its demand and avoid a lawsuit.
“…failing which our client will approach the court for urgent relief to assert its rights with no further notice to you. Our client also reserves the right to seek damages you or in your personal capacities in so far as any damage to property is occasioned by your product”, they said.
However, the EFF is not budging, instead telling the retailer to, “go to hell”.
“You racist lawyers of Pravin Jamnandas Gordhan, and your racist client CLICKS can go to the nearest hell”, the party said in a statement.
“Black dignity or death, we shall overcome”
Members of the EFF, including leader Julius Malema, will be deployed to a number of Clicks outlets across the country.
- Malema will be at Mall of the North in Polokwane
- Deputy President Floyd Shivambu at Sandton City, Johannesburg
- Secretary General Marshall Dlamini at Mall of Africa in Midrand
- National Chair Veronica Mente at the Goodwood Shopping Centre in Cape Town
- Treasure General Omphile Maotwe at Menlyn Mall, in Pretoria
Clicks found itself at the centre of a racial storm last week – after an advertisement labeled black people’s hair as dry, damaged and frizzy.
While the retail giant has apologised, the EFF is still unimpressed and is continuing with its demonstration.
Clicks stores to remain open
Clicks appears to be prepared to take on the EFF, announcing its outlets will be open across the country. In a statement posted on its twitter page, it said contingency plans have been put in place to ensure the safety of its customers and staffers, in the event of violence breaking out.
The EFF has published a notice allegedly sent by an anonymous source, detailing Clicks’ plan for Monday, which includes increasing security in hotspot areas (Johannesburg, Pretoria, Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal) and.
According to the directive, non-uniform-wearing staff will be deployed to manage entrances and stores will be closed immediately should protesters enter the mall.
