Watch: Beautiful snowfall covers the Cape provinces – with more on its way

Both the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape have experienced some substantial snowfall over the past 24 hours, and the South African Weather Service (Saws) has warned that there is more to come on Tuesday.

Eastern and Western Cape receive flurries

Parts of the provinces towards the south-west of the country were transformed into a winter ‘postcard-picture’ overnight, and the freezing temperatures brought the white stuff to the higher planes of the Capes. Tuesday promises to be another tumultuous day, as this latest cold front begins to push its way towards the east:

“Snowfall is expected over the high ground of the Western Cape, southern Northern Cape, southern Free State and Eastern Cape high ground today, and Gale force winds between 65-75km/h are expected along the coast between Mossel Bay and Coffee Bay.”

“High to very high seas will continue along the coast of the Western and Eastern Cape provinces today spreading to the south coast of KZN this afternoon. Meanwhile, another storm surge is expected along the coast between Mosselbay and Cape St Francis this morning.”
