Try this fresh and sweet Apple Tart as a day time snack

Deliciously sweet and fruity, these Apple Tart treats are just what you need this weekend!

Like most other apple tarts this can also be served as dessert and don’t need to be treated as a snack. Whether you serve it as is or decide to spruce it up remains up to you! These Apple Tarts tastes delicious with cream or ice cream and if you have children in the house, make sure to have some custard at hand as they will always opt for custard.

I made this recipe twice and used a larger bowl. I did leave it slightly longer in the oven but depending on your oven you may need to keep an eye on it as it might burn quickly.

Enjoy these Apple Tarts warm or cold, all in just 45 minutes.

    Ingredients

    • Ingredients for crust:
    • 275 g (500 ml) cake flour

    • 200 g (250 ml) sugar ~ white or brown sugar) (Use less sugar if you don’t like it too sweet)

    • 10 ml baking powder

    • 2 ml of salt

    • 250 g butter, room temperature

    • Ingredient for the filling:
    • 1 Large tin (+-385 g) unsweetened pie apples finely chopped, I find it better to better to mash them a little, or use fresh apples, cook them, when done, add the rest of the ingredients.

    • 100 g sugar

    • 100 g mixed dried fruit or your choice, finely chopped (Soak in water or rooibos tea to moisten the fruit.)

    • 2 ml cinnamon

    • 1 ml clover

    • salt

    Method

    • Method for the crust:
    • Sift the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Rub in the butter with fingertips until a dough forms. Cover the dough with cling wrap and leave it to rest. I prefer to put it in the fridge.
    • Preheat the oven to 180 °C – 350 ºF
    • Press half the dough at the bottom of a greased ovenproof pie dish of 27 x 30 cm in diameter or tray 30 x 20. Press down firmly and use a small glass to roll over the dough to smooth it out.
    • Method for filling:
    • Combine apples, sugar dried fruit, cinnamon, cloves and salt together.
    • Carefully add it in the crust and spread evenly. Grate the rest of the dough over the tart.
    • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the crust is beginning to turn light brown.
    • *Serve hot or cold.
