Candy Moloi, veteran actress of Muvhango fame passes away
The South African arts industry has suffered yet another loss with the death of legendary actress Candy Moloi.
Moloi is particularly known to local soapie lovers for her role as ‘Vho-Makhadzi’ in the hit SABC drama Muvhango.
Candy Moloi – ‘An outstanding achiever is gone’
Back in May 2020, Moloi’s daughter, Lerato Zah, who herself acted in the soapie, paid tribute to her mother on social media.
“These two beauties beside me are the sovereigns of my heart, the loves of my life and the beats of my heart. These are my besties… I am because they are. They are love personified. My love for them knows no measures. Dear, God please bless them both abundantly for me”, Zah said in an Instagram post of her baby daughter and mother.
According to TVSA, Moloi played the role of MaModumedi in the SABC1 mini-series Death of a Queen, which aired as part of the channel’s “Shakespeare in Mzansi” strand from July to August, 2008.
The loss is the latest in the entertainment industry after Isidingo actress Elize Cawood lost her battle with cancer earlier this month.
While in 2014 she starred as Fhatu Neluvhola, another mother to Dibuseng and unofficial ‘grandmother’ to Dibuseng’s two children, in the SABC2 thriller series Thola.
Tshamano Makhadi, who also starred in Muvhango, has remembered Moloi in a moving Facebook post, reflecting on an encounter he had had with her.
“It was in this meeting where film producer, Dave and I had visited the home of Mme Candy Moloi in Johannesburg. More than anything, we had come to present an offer for a role in a film which we believed she will play so well. This was a way to honor her talent, and contribution to television over the many years”, Makhadi said.
“It was a day full of laughter, going back to the many years of her career. It was also in this meeting where we discussed a possible documentary film of her rich story. Tonight weighs heavily as we learn of her passing. A special talent and outstanding achiever is gone. May you rest in eternal peace”
