Biggest jackpot in five years

National Lottery Operator, Ithuba, said on Saturday that its biggest jackpot since taking over as Lotto operator five years has been won by a single player. However, the ticket of R153 million is still unclaimed.

The winning draw took place on Friday 10 July. Go get your receipts and banking SMS’s, because if you played the lucky numbers 7, 13, 23, 37, 39 along with bonus ball 7, you could no be R153 million richer.

Busisiwe Msizi, Head of Corporate Relations at ITHUBA, said in a statement that they are “thrilled to have another major jackpot winner the space of five weeks, and adds:

“We encourage all our players who played PowerBall PLUS to check their tickets as they might be the latest multi-millionaire”.

Five winners in 2020

Msizi pointed out that even though 2020 “has been a challenging year due to COVID-19, it’s also been a record-breaking year for the the National Lottery. The first millionair was made in February when a player from Roodepoort won R114 million.

Luck was on that person side, considering they played with just R5. In April, another player from KwaZulu-Natal walked away with a jackpot of R135 million. And two more jackpot winners were crowned in the past three weeks.

On Tuesday 3 June, one lucky player won R77 million in the PowerBall draw, followed by a jackpot of R15 million going to a Lotto Plus player on Wednesday 1 July. According to Msizi, both players purchased the winning tickets via their FNB apps.

Trauma counselling for the PowerBall winner

Msizi said Ithuba’s Winner Services Department is ready to receive the winner. Once the winning ticket has been validated, ITHUBA’s first step would be to provide trauma counselling for the winner.

“Becoming R153 Million richer overnight is an overwhelming experience to anyone. Our aim is to help the winner digest the news and enjoy every step of this life-changing experience. Trauma counselling will be followed by extensive financial advice to assist the winner with their financial planning”.

What to do if you win the jackpot

Winners can reach out to their nearest Ithuba regional office 8:00 and 16:00 from Monday to Friday. Do not that Ithuba adopted a no-mask-no-entry policy; all persons visiting National Lottery offices must wear facial masks.

Any payments of under R2 000 will can be claimed from participating National Lottery retailers. Only selected retailers, including Shoprite Checkers, are authorised to pay up to R10 000.

Winnings of up to R49 999 can be claimed from the South African Post Office, while winners of R50 000 and above must claim from their nearest Ithuba regional office.
