Live stream: What time will Cyril Ramaphosa address the nation on Sunday?

Another Sunday, another day of waiting for a broadcast or a live stream and asking ourselves; “what time will Cyril Ramaphosa decide to show up?” – his last national address is still fresh in the mind of South Africans, after it was pushed back by nearly three hours. We’re hoping for more punctuality during this latest coronavirus update.

Coronavirus: Presidential plans for Sunday

Athi Geleba is the Head of Digital Communications in the Presidency. She has revealed that Cyril Ramaphosa’s programme for today is dedicated to key engagements around the national state of disaster occasioned by coronavirus. His first task is to meet with senior business leaders, and other engagements include:

“These leaders will have an opportunity to outline the impact of the disaster on business and the economy at large and engage recommendations to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus outbreak. The political leaders meeting the president today are also likely to deliver some of their own statements.”

“Afterwards, a meeting of the National Command Council will consider regulations on our current state of disaster, and other measures to protect the country. Ramaphosa will then address the nation in a message that will be broadcast on radio, television and an online live stream.”

What time will Cyril Ramaphosa address the nation on Sunday 22 March?

Last week, he was scheduled to speak at 17:00. That got pushed back to 18:00, before it was finally delivered at 19:45. We are expecting a similar predicted start-time to last week, in that “late-afternoon, early-evening” slot. But, unfortunately, the presidency has not yet given us a concrete time – due to the number of meetings Ramaphosa has on Sunday. Should that change, we will update this article immediately.

“Please note that the time at which the President will address the nation will be determined by the time his meetings conclude.”
