KZN weather warning: Severe thunderstorms expected in these areas
The South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued a weather warning for KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), on Wednesday. Parts of the province are expected to be hit by severe thunderstorms from 14:00 to 22:00.

Much of the wet weather coming into KZN from the southwestern coastal regions of South Africa will hit the Ugu District Municipality at around 14:00, on Wednesday.
Temperatures peaking at 32 degrees will be dampened by rainfall and severe thunderstrms, according to readings by Ventusky.com.

Saws has predicted that the thunderstorms will affect these areas of the Ugu district.

How to stay safe during thunderstorms
KZN is still reeling from the floods that swept away communities and claimed at least three lives, a week ago. The provincial government is still in the process of assisting displaced victims of the floods, from Inanda, eTafuleni and Ngungumane.
While wet weather is not expected to be as harsh, the severe thunderstorms do pose a threat to livelihoods. That’s why we have drummed up some useful tips on how to stay safe during this rough period of rain and thunder.
If you’re outdoors:
- postpone your trip or activity;
- find a safe, enclosed shelter;
- try and avoid touching the ground. Lightning causes electric currents along the top of the ground that can be deadly over 100 feet away; and
- stay away from concrete floors or walls. Lightning can travel through any metal wires or bars in concrete walls or flooring;
If you’re indoors:
- avoid water during a thunderstorm;
- avoid electronic equipment of all types;
- avoid corded phones avoid water during a thunderstorm; and
- avoid concrete floors and walls.
