Durban fire latest: Three injured as factory blaze rages [video]
Emergency crews are responding to a Durban fire on Wednesday morning as a business premises in Wentworth went up in smoke. The inferno has caused a number of traffic issues, but the main concern remains the health and well-being of the factory’s occupants.
Durban fire – injuries and hospital submissions reported
The property, on the corner of Shetland Road in Wentworth, is just a stone’s throw from the city centre. Located to the south of the city, the road through Mobeni has now been closed off to motorists.

Shortly after 10:00, reports of a fire were received by local authorities and firefighters and a team of paramedics were dispatched to the scene. It’s understood that at least three people are receiving medical treatment after sustaining injuries caused by the blaze. You can see the extent of the Durban fire here:

Wentworth blaze: Emergency crews remain on-site
One of the casualties has already been rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. Furthermore, Rescue Care spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says parts of the business premises are collapsing. However, some workers might still be trapped inside the factory.
“The entire factory is well alight and the Durban Fire Department is working to try to extinguish the blaze with multiple units in attendance. At this stage, one person has been rushed to hospital while two others are being treated on the scene by a paramedic from the fire department.”
