Watch: Bruma woman wrestled to the ground in brazen daylight robbery
A police investigation is underway, after a video of a robbery in Bruma, Johannesburg went viral this week. The CCTV footage shows a woman fighting to keep hold of her purse, only to be overpowered by the thug that attacked her. Another getaway driver is also involved in this shocking incident.
While there are no injuries or fatalities to report, the clip reflects the sad state of affairs for law and order in South Africa. The woman’s decision to hit back and defend herself didn’t prove to be fatal, but her ordeal will be one that stays with her for a very long time.
The clip starts by showing the victim initially receiving help with her car from a passer-by. However, the situation soon turns sour, as the thief wrestles the Bruma resident to the ground. He grapples with her for a few moments, before snatching the purse from the woman’s grasp.

He hops into the back of a white Toyota, which speeds off and zooms into traffic at the bottom of an alleyway. Suspicions have also been raised about a white Ford Ikon at the top of the screen, which seems to move out of the getaway car’s path as it approaches the top of the road.
The incident occurred at 15:30 on Sunday afternoon, and those involved in this robbery have, so far, been able to avoid justice. This may not have been their first rodeo, either. The criminal gang are accused of committing a very similar crime the day after this one happened. Allegedly, they managed to pinch this man’s cell phone in Houghton.
The same vehicle registration FV 74 PZ GP, exactly the same car😠, snatched my phone on Monday in Houghton😡. I only managed to track it to Oxford road before the data connection was disabled. pic.twitter.com/jr4usUiaY3

Clearly, this bloke isn’t able to pick on someone his own size. The target has become another victim of gender-based violence in South Africa, due to the naked opportunism of these low-life lawbreakers. You can watch the footage below, which was shared by anti-crime advocate Yusuf Abramjee:
