Wales vs Barbarians Live updates: as it happens
Wales vs Barbarians: The Baa-Baas round off their November tour in Cardiff as they face Wayne Pivac’s Wales.
Pivac’s opposite number for the occasion is the man he succeeded as coach of Wales, Warren Gatland. The match will serve as something of a final farewell for Gatland who heads back to New Zealand to take up a Super Rugby post with the Chiefs.
The match is set to be special for several reasons with veteran hookers Rory Best and Schalk Brits playing their last-ever games of Rugby. Meanwhile the referee will mark a special occassion as well, Nigel Owens takes charge of a match involving his home country of Wales for the first time. The WRU had to ask World Rugby for special dispensation to appoint arguably the best official of his generation.
South Africans in action
Ahead of a Super Rugby season where much is expected of the young Sharks utility back Curwin Bosch gets another opportunity to test himself at flyhalf albeit against another relative rookie in Jarrod Evans.
Dillyn Leyds was part of a memorable Barbarians score at Twickenham earlier this month and starts on the wing opposite the Rugby World Cup’s joint-top try-scorer Josh Adams who wears 11 for Wales. Cornal Hendricks takes up his place on the other wing to make it an all-Bok wing combination for the Barbarians.
Bosch will again have the familiar face of former Sharks teammate Andre Esterhuizen outside of him.
Former Ulster prop Wiehahn Herbst brings experience and power to the front row while at the back of the scrum Bok flank Marco van Staden teams up with SA-born Scotland international Josh Strauss. Strauss returns to South African domestic rugby in 2020, having agreed to join the Bulls for their Super Rugby campaign.
Brits and fellow former Springbok Jano Vermaak are on the bench which also features Sunwolves Hencus van Wyk.
