Limpopo police are in search of these six prison escapees [photo]

Law enforcement officials in Limpopo have ramped up a search for six prison escapees that managed to slip away from the Tinmyn police station’s holding cells, on Saturday.

How did the prisoners escape from custody?

According to police spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, an investigation has been launched into the suspicious escape of the six prisoners that were held in custody at Tinmyn police station, outside Mokopane, on Saturday afternoon, at around 12:15.

This is the second time, in two weeks, that suspects held in police custody around stations in Limpopo, have managed to slipped away from their holding cells.

On Sunday, 3 November, four prisoners who were awaiting trial managed to escape from Hoedspruit police station. It is still not known how they managed such an impossible feat and they are still on the run. Brig Mojapelo has warned that the suspects are considered dangerous.

Much like the latter, the escape of the six prisoners from Tinmyn is still the subject of an intense investigation.However, early suspicions point at possible moles within the police force in various stations around the province.

Limpopo police are in search of these prison escapees

The six prisoners who have been on the run since Saturday, 16 November, managed to slip away ” during the daily routine activities”, Brig Mojapelo explained. The escapees are aged between 21 and 31 and have been identified as:

  • Christopher Langa: Belived to be aged 22, he is facing charges related to a string of residential burglaries that occurred in Tinmyn;
  • Tshurai Fabiano: The 22-year-old male is facing theft charges;
  • Mahlatsi Lucky Setumula: A 21-year-old male who faces two counts of rape committed around Tinmyn;
  • Awanda Goandepi: aged 21, facing a charge of rape committed around Tinmyn;
  • Victor Dube: aged 31, he is facing a charge of pointing of firearm, assault with grevious bodily harm committed around Tinmyn and Contravention of the Illegal Immigration Act; and
  • Simbarashe Ngwezi: aged 27, facing a charge of Contravention of Illegal Immigration Act
