Wish.com vs Reality: Themba Robin pokes fun at R15m stadium [watch]
The South African voice-over artist and actor Themba Robin has created another funny skit, this time targeting the Enoch Mgijima municipality’s R15 million Lesseyton sports stadium in the Eastern Cape.
Themba Robin’s take on the R15 million Lesseyton sports stadium
You may have seen Themba Robin in a few skits last year during the big COVID-19 lockdown as part of his lockdown series, Lockdown is Lekker. After the comedian went viral for his ‘SkolieOlie’ advert – the perfect oil to keep criminals from stealing your belongings – he took to TikTok to share his latest take on the stadium which has made headlines over the country.
On 6 October, the Eastern Cape Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) MEC Xolile Nqatha demanded answers over the construction of the Lesseyton sports stadium. Nqatha has since asked the municipality to give him a full report on the project while the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (The Hawks) also announced that it is investigating the construction of the controversial stadium.
But that did not stop the public to lash out at the municipality on its Facebook page. And it certainly did not stop Themba whose video has been dubbed “spot on”. In the video, Themba compares the stadium to an order from Wish.com, an online shopping website that has been increasingly mocked for its “unrealistic” products that are usually not what you thought it would be.
“When Procurement Department buys everything off Wish.com,” Themba captioned the video of him “ordering” a stadium online. To his surprise, plastic lawn chairs show up…just in time for the “ribbon-cutting ceremony”.
The video has gone on to clock in over 34 000 likes with many saying that it “is one of the best videos on TikTok” from a South African comedian. You can watch the clip below:
