Yay or Nay? Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala outfit is now a Halloween costume

Just in time for the spooky season! It looks like Kim Kardashian’s viral Met Gala 2021 outfit will be a hit this Halloween.

After the reality star attended the Met Gala ball earlier in September in an all-black, full-coverage Balenciaga getup featuring a face-obscuring mask, many have been trying to get their hands on the same outfit in order to win some or other Halloween contest.

In the United States, Yandy, the company known for sexy costumes that play on meme-worthy pop culture moments has released a version for Halloween that costs just $99.99 (about R1 500). At the moment, the outfit is already sold out, but will reportedly “be back soon”.

“Glimmering gowns had their fashion moment, and we’re here for it, but look who paved the way for statement-making avant-garde!,” the “Mystery Gala Guest” costume’s product page reads.

“Dark, dramatic, and ever so obscure, flaunt your couture-kissed curves like an A-list celeb in this exclusive Mystery Gala Guest costume featuring a semi-sheer black tube dress, a sheer mesh cape, a breathable black facial hood, opaque tights, and long satin gloves.”

The ensemble does not come with a 190cm ponytail courtesy of celeb hairstylist Chris Appleton though.

After Kim wore the outfit, the internet responded with various memes and Twitter posts. From guessing it is a dementor from a Harry Potter film or the Grim Reaper, most believe that Kim’s ensemble has “American Horror story” vibes which make it the perfect ensemble for Halloween.

Kim has since reportedly defended her choice for the outfit as she wanted to “new subculture and fashion statement” with her polarizing look.

“There’s no logo, no face, but everyone knows it’s her,” a source told Page Six of the outift. “Kanye [her ex-husband] gave her the courage to push creativity and people’s imagination through art. It’s the ultimate confidence.”
