Sarupinda thrilled to play alongside Kaizer Chiefs legends on national duty

Sekhukhune FC star Blessing Sarupinda can’t wait to join up with the Zimbabwe camp where he will play alongside the PSL legends including a current Kaizer Chiefs star.

Sarupinda will link up with Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona when the Zimbabwe squad gathers ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Bafana Bafana on Friday.

Learning from Kaizer Chiefs legends

The 22-year-old joined Sekhukhune ahead of the current season as part of a big recruitment drive for the club’s first top-flight season. He hopes to learn and grow from the exposure to experienced players like Billiat and Musona.

Sarupinda might even harbour ambitions of pulling on the black and gold of Kaizer Chiefs before his career is done but for now he is grateful for the opportunity to sit under the learning tree.

“I feel great. I feel good and I want to thank the Almighty for this opportunity. It is a dream coming true for me,” Sarupinda said..

“It is a good experience to play with big players like Billiat and Musona.

“You learn a lot from these guys because they have been at the highest level in football, for around 10 years, so it is a good feeling for me.”

Living the dream

Sarupinda doesn’t want to dwell on the successes that have elevated him to the World Cup qualifiers squad, having impressed on debut during the recent Cosafa Cup.

“Maybe I played the way he [coach Zdravko Logarušić] wanted me to play because I was playing under his instructions and doing things he wanted.

“Maybe that is why he has called me to the senior national team. I really appreciate the opportunity.

“It is not easy and I need to keep going, keep on working very hard and also put the badge of my team Sekhukhune high.”

Zimbabwe, like many African nations, will be without their players based in England after the top clubs blocked travel to countries on the UK government’s red list.
