Kaizer Chiefs ‘outcast’ handed second chance as injuries rock Amakhosi

The unfortunate recent injury to Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic could well have thrown an ‘outcast‘ at Naturena a second chance to impress coach Stuart Baxter

The South African reported over the weekend that Nurkovic is set to undergo surgery on his right knee.

Kaizer Chiefs have endured a disastrious start to the 2021/22 DStv Premiership campaign despite – on paper at least – having been handed a dream opening five matches.

The Soweto giants have, however, only picked up one win along with two defeats and two draws and lie 13th in the 16-team log with just five points.

They are already a yawning eight points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and face a daunting next five matches which could well spell the end of Stuart Baxter’s second stint at the club.

So desperate are the times at Naturena, especially in front of goal, that Baxter appears to have no choice but to turn to Zambian striker Lazarous Kambole – who is currently on the transfer list at Naturena!

The 27-year-old Kambole was on the Amakhosi bench for their DStv Premiership match against Marumo Gallants over the weekend – which ended in a goalless stalemate – and was introduced in the final minutes for Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

Worryingly for all Kaizer Chiefs supporters is that Kambole has scored just ONE goal since joining the club ahead of the 2019/20 season in 41 appearances to date!

It therefore makes perfect sense why he’s on the transfer list – but may soon find himself a regular in the match-day squad.

Kaizer Chiefs have scored a mere THREE goals in their five DStv Premiership matches to date and two of those to have found the back of the net – Sifiso Hlanti and Daniel Cardoso – are defenders!

With Nurkovic and fellow striker Leonardo Castro currently unavailable, Kambole won’t have a better opportunity to raise his profile and deliver for the biggest club in the country in what is his final year of his contract.

Kambole could get his next opportunity as soon as Saturday, 2 October when Kaizer Chiefs travel to KwaZulu-Natal to play AmaZulu.

Kick-off is at 15:30.
