#FreeBritney: Jamie Spears is suspended as Britney’s conservator
A judge has suspended American singer Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears as her conservator during the latest court hearing in Los Angeles on Wednesday 29 September.
JAMIE SPEARS REMOVED AS CONSERVATOR
Jamie Spears was appointed as his daughter Britney Spears conservator in 2008 following her mental health crisis. The conservatorship was split into two parts – her estate and finances and her as a person. Jamie Spears was initially in control of both, but stepped aside as her personal conservator in 2019 due to health reasons. Jodi Montgomery, a care professional, replaced him on a temporary basis
The judge at the hearing said that it was in the singer’s “best interest” to remove her father from the legal agreement adding that the “current situation is untenable” and reflects a toxic environment”. The judge suspended Jamie Spears as Britney’s conservator. A hearing on whether to terminate the conservatorship has been set for later this year.
This is a big win for the #FreeBritney movement as the singer is one step closer to gaining her freedom. Earlier this year, Britney Spears spoke out about the abuse she endured during the 13-year conservatorship which included her being medicated against her will and restricted from having children.
