Where is the R2m for students, Lasizwe? Tweeps want answers
Social media personality Lasizwe Dambuza has responded to Tweeps questions surrounding the R2 million he raised for students in March amid the #FeesMustFall protests.
TWEEPS HAVE QUESTIONS
In March this year, Lasizwe alongside Sibu Mabena, Takkies Dinwiddy, and King Aya started the #R10GoesALongWay initiative to raise funds to assist students amid the #FeesMustFall protests that took place.
Within the first five days Lasizwe managed to raise a whopping R1 million with donations from Tweeps as well as retailer Pick n Pay, KFC and others.
“WE DID IT JOE! We raised R1 000 000.00 for students to get registered in Universities in 5 days!!! We literally did it! Thank you to every single one of you who contributed R10 to this initiative. WE REALLY DID THAT!!,” wrote Lasizwe on Twitter.
Standard Bank thereafter decided to double his efforts and contributed a total of R1 million to the #R10GoesALongWay initiative, equating to a total of R2 million raised.
“STANDARD BANK JUST DONATED R 1 000 000.00 TO #R10GoesALongWay. THE TOTAL IS R2 000 000.00! OH MY GOSHSSSSSS!!!!! SOUTH AFRICA WE RAISED 2 MILLION RAND FOR STUDENTS I DON’T KNOW HOW TO REACT!!! 2 MILLION !!! WHAT!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. WHAT!,” wrote Lasizwe on Twitter.
Where did the R2 million go? That’s the big question on the minds of Tweeps who want an update on where the R10 they had contributed went.

LASIZWE’S HILARIOUS RESPONSES
Lasizwe had a tongue and cheek response to Tweeps as he posted memes that made him look.. Guilty.
WHERE THE R2 MILLION ACTUALLY WENT
Although tweeps doubted Lasizwe, he handled the hate gracefully without attempting to defend himself at first. He then explained that attaining the tax clearance is a long process.
“Usually, I’d be upset about the backlash and worry about what people are saying but this time around, I thought let them be. They don’t know what they’re talking about,” said Lasizwe to Daily Sun.
“Some companies that pledged to the initiative had to get tax clearances and it’s been a long process. Fundi has its own protocols it needs to adhere to,” he added.
FundiFund, who has been administering and auditing the funds, told Daily Sun that R2 192 462,58 had been pledged but only R1 072 462,58 was received. The bursary fund management company went on to explain that 17 000 applications were received and 166 students were drawn to get their fees funded in the first draw session.
A Twitter user also cleared his name with a full list of students who benefited from #R10GoesALongWay along with a letter confirming her registration.
