KEITH RICHARDS: When Watts punched Jagger

Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards recalls in his 2010 autobiography Life, that he and Mick Jagger had returned to their hotel from a night out in Amsterdam when something out of the ordinary happened. Richards noted that Mick Jagger and Charlie Watts were not on great terms.

In the early hours of the morning, Jagger had called Charlie Watts asking where he was. Not so long after the phone call, Watts arrived at their door looking as dapper as ever.

A portion from Richards’s book reads: “He walked straight past me, got hold of Mick and said: ‘Never call me your drummer again’. Then he hauled him up by the lapels… and gave him a right hook”.

Richards said that for Watts to throw a killer punch, he had to be badly provoked.

BANDMATES REMEMBER CHARLIE WATTS
