MTN8 | Mamelodi Sundowns v Kaizer Chiefs: Stuart Baxter promises ‘some changes’

Amakhosi are targeting ‘more of the same’ after coming out on top on penalties against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates after a thriller in the Carling Black Label Cup earlier this month.

However, they can expect stern opposition in the shape of defending DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

With a place in the MTN8 semi-finals on the line at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday (kick-off at 15:00), Baxter was asked whether any of the club’s host of new signings would be making their debuts.

Baxter didn’t offer a definitive answer, but suggested that some of the players he had worked with previously at other clubs would be thrust straight into the action.

“It’s difficult to say – I’m sure we’ll see some of them,” said Baxter, as quoted by TimesLIVE.

“Everybody sort of has a different starting point, really, in terms of when did they come in, how much experience have they had before.

“So Cole Alexander, for example, is a new player but he’s had me as a coach before. Some of the lads were with me in the national team, and some were here in my first stint.

“Training will tell us who’s putting their hands up and who maybe needs a bit more time and maybe, due to fitness or otherwise, will start on the bench.

“I think there will be some changes. But I don’t think it will be wholesale changes given that we have signed a few players.”
