Amakhosi have four goalkeepers who could easily be starting week in and week out, and this was evident with the performances of both Itumeleng Khune and Brendon Peterson on Sunday.

Khune started against Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Cup, and he was replaced by new signing Peterson midway through the second half.

And Baxter, who confirmed his son, Lee, is in Sweden for the birth of his child, said the Chiefs have four No.1s as per what the goalkeeper coach told Khune, Peterson, Daniel Akpeyi and Bruce Bvuma in their Zoom meeting.

Furthermore, Baxter said he was more impressed with Khune’s performance who he said showed glimpses of his old form.

At the end of the day, Baxter is just pleased that Chiefs have four equally good goalkeepers that he can count on next season.

“The goalkeeper coach, Lee, is in Sweden right now. His wife is giving birth tomorrow (Monday),” Baxter told the media.

“So, he was on Zoom with all the goalkeepers, and what he told the four goalkeepers… he told them, ‘Kaizer Chiefs have got four No.1s’, and they are fighting. They can be No.4 one day, they can be playing the next day,” he explained.

“And we are blessed. I mean you saw Brendon’s performance when he came on. Itu was more like the guy I used to know before when he played – the distribution, his shot-stopping, and his agility.

“So, I think Itu has recommitted himself now to be… Let’s say, dedicated to go as far he can go with his career. It’s not over yet,” added Baxter.

“And with the [other] three, they are fighting him for that No.1 spot. So, it gives us a headache but that’s a headache I will take everyday of the week,” concluded Baxter.
